Long Run

I was dreading my Long Run this past weekend (10 miles). I knew I had to do it but didn't mean I have to like it. The last time I trained for the 1/2 marathon this was the point that I stopped because I was sick. I had a cold or the flu, I don't know which for a full month. Surprisingly, I went and completed the race none the less. I think most of my friends and family were surprised that I did.

I know it was my first 1/2 but I wasn't happy with my result. I walked twice in the marathon and that showed me that I needed to train. Training is hard but if you want the result you have to suck it up and do it.

Despite the fact I did the long run it wasn't very easy and I did it not even close to the pace that I was suppose to do it at. A couple of days before I did something stupid. I decided to do 300 squats. My legs were burning and I could barely run. But I kept on like a trooper. Wanting to quit many times but sucking it up. I hope that can keep up that attitude on the time of the race and come in under 2 hours.

'Til my next post.

Bad runner....bad blogger

I have been pretty bad about blogging, I didn't blog once last week. It was the same for my running. I don't want to make excuses.......but I will. My work hours was insane last week with 14 hour days, it doesn't give you much energy to exercise or live. This week I promise to be better with the blogging and the running.

Of course, my week started off good. The easy 2 mile run but then I had to do Tempo Run. God, I dislike Tempo Runs but not as much as I dislike Speed Work. It was a disappointing Tempo Run though this week. I was suppose to do 5 miles @ 8:09. I did 2 1/2. I know that Tempo Run and Speed Work is a will power thing at least that's what my boyfriend says. This coming from the guy who can do Tempo Runs in his sleep. My only comfort is that I can kick his ass in the Long Runs, he doesn't have the endurance, at least not yet.

I just want to be able to finish a Tempo Run and say that I had the will power to finish. I guess that is what separates us average individuals from the elite runners. I had a secret fantasy when I started running again that I would be able to run as fast as the elites. Then I learned how fast they ran and that fantasy totally disappeared. I know that I will never be that fast but I want to be able to run at a decent speed.

I won't give up though. I know that one day I will crack that barrier that is telling me to give up. I won't run as fast as the elites but I will be about to run a personal best.

The Running Room

So today I went to the Running Room.

Can someone please tell me why because you put "running" in front of a piece of clothing it becomes so expensive. I don't get it. It's a pair of shorts. Why, do I have to pay an arm and a leg to buy it? The most insane of this is Nike+ clothing.

I have the whole Nike + kit. I love it. I totally recommend it whole hearted to anyone who doesn't have it. You get your music, you get Lance Armstrong telling you when you reach a certain goal and your runs are graphed on their web site. It's great. The only think it's missing is a heart rate monitor but I am happy with my polar heart rate monitor. But I digress......

I wanted a Nike + t-shirt with a place to put my nano. The damn thing would have cost me $74.99 (cdn) not including taxes. For crying out loud! I didn't need it that much. I will wear my cheat t-shirt.

Man, I love running but buying the gear is killing me. Like any passion you have to suck it up (all the cost) and to quote Nike's famous slogan, "Just Do It!".

So run on runners, run on with your very expensive gear.

Tomorrow is my long run (9 miles) wish me luck.

The Runner In Me!

I am a runner!

It's amazing that how in your youth you don't realize what is good for you. In High School I was on the track team. I actually didn't like it all that much but my Coach pushed me. I was the only black girl on the team so I think she expected a lot from me. She didn't really get it. She suggested I do long distance and I quite firmly in my wanting to do short distances. I didn't want to run for that long. The quicker it was finish the better it was or me back then. I ran only the 100 meters, 200 meters & 400 meters. I wasn't really good in either but it was short and sweet.

A year ago, I got back into running and I fell in love! I was so much in love that I decided to run a half marathon. The beginning of this year I ran my first half marathon and finish with a 2:15 time. Wasn't happy with that. So, now I'm training for my second half marathon, taking place on September 9, 2007.

This will be my blog to document this.
